Dr. Hangartner investigates antibody effector functions and, together with Dr. Andrew Ward, has co-developed a rapid method for the mapping of polyclonal antibody responses by electron microscopy.
Lars Hangartner has been investigating B cell and antibody responses to variable viruses such as HIV and influenza virus and is currently working on the development of a vaccine against HIV.
One of the focuses of Dr. Hangartner’s research lies in antibody Fc effector functions, and he recently identified a novel antiviral activity that is intrinsic to the C-terminal glycan of IgA.
